Since 2020, Leander was admitted to the Young Talent Program - MM Academy - of The Royal Theatre of De Munt/La Monnaie in Brussels. In 2022, Leander Carlier was appointed as MM Soloist, for season 2022-2023 and season 2023-2024.

Biography

Leander Carlier (°2000) is a Belgian baritone. He received his musical education at the music academies of Aalst and Meise, the art high school of the Lemmens Institute and the Municipal Conservatory of Bruges. He received his Bachelor's (2021) and Master's (2023) degrees with high distinction in Classical Voice at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in the class of Gary Jankowski. He actively attended masterclasses with renowned singers such as Zeger Vandersteene, Claren McFadden, Lucienne Van Dyck and Raehann Bryce-Davis. He worked with accompanists such as Malcolm Martineau, Maciej Pikulski, Aäron Wajnberg, Jozef De Beenhouwer and Piet Swerts. Since 2019, Leander became a member of the B’Rock Vocal Consort. He did an European tour under the baton of René Jacobs with the opera Orpheus by Telemann. During his Bachelor's studies he performed one of the leading roles in the opera Les Indes Galantes by Rameau, where he played the role of high-Inca Priest Huascar. Later on, he sang two other leading roles in this opera; Ali and Osman. In Mozart's opera Don Giovanni, Leander performed the role of Masetto and studied the role of Don Giovanni (2021) as cover. Also in operette La Périchole by Offenbach, he got the leading role Piquillo which he performed in the Centre of Arts DeSingel (2023). Since 2022, Leander has participated in several competitions where he received numerous First Prizes and many Special Prizes. In 2023, Leander made his professional debut as L'huissier de la cour (opera Henry VIII by Saint-Saëns) and performed the roles of Second Son, Second New Arrival and First Acquaintance in Nos (opera by Shostakovich) in The Royal Theatre of La Monnaie/De Munt. In 2023, he was a member of DeZes, the youth jury and youth panel of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition for voice.
